British pianist/vocalist Paul Kissaun mixes melodic pop and rock with jazz in a way that combines soul blues vocal stylings with a subtle undercurrent of wry comedy. In that vein, Kissaun will just as often cover a modern pop song as an old jazz standard, and his original compositions elegantly move between heartfelt balladry to wry social comment.

 

He began his professional life as an actor musician in the mid eighties before attracting the attention of Hereward K who, in 1989, asked him to join acapella chart toppers The Flying Pickets. During this time he shared the bill with a fair chunk of his musical heroes including Ray Charles, Nina Simone, Joan Baez to name but three.He continued with the band arranging and recording songs for the Vox Pop album, combining this with a 

 a career in musicals. In 2000 he left the band in order to write for childrens TV and theatre including the theme for CITV's Jim Jam and Sunny.
